The Mexican Constitution in Maya

The Mexican government decided to translate the Mexican Constitution in Maya!

After 95 years (The Constitution of the United States of Mexico was written down on the 5^th February 1917) and with the insistence of Mayan representatives to the authorities, the Mayan Constitution has been translated and officially presented to the whole country yesterday, on Thursday, 9^th of August 2012.

This decision reflects the realization of the importance of the Mayan Culture in the Mexican society. 

We must not forget that the Maya are not an antic civilization, they still live. And they are the inhabitants of the most touristic region of the country, the Yucatan Peninsula.

Taking their language into consideration is the minimum Mexico could do to thank them for their work, their land and the richness of their land, language and culture.  The Maya civilization is one of the cultures which manage to fascinate the entire world!

One million of tourists for next summer in the Riviera Maya!

 Quintana-Roo state has been enjoying wonderful days for years as the Riviera Maya has been elected as THE Saint Tropez of Latin America by the tourists.

Every year, this region witnesses an increase of its numbers of visitors. The region abounds of treasures worth to discover: the 28ºCelsius pristine water, the immaculate white sand, the wonderful jungle and the gripping Mayan ruins! This positive trend keeps going: Governor of Quintana-Roo Roberto Borge Angulo has announced that 1 million of tourists were expecting this coming summer in the state. Moreover, the hotels occupancy rate has been estimated around 90 %.

This news is the result of the concentration of marketing efforts during months regarding the defense of Mexico’s image and statute as a touristic country on a national and international level.

The prognostics about the repartition are the following: the region will welcome around 60% of national tourists and about 40% of foreigners. The foreigners will come mainly from the United States and Canada.

Juan Carlos González Fernández, State Tourism Secretary, quite rightly esteems that Quintana-Roo is ready to welcome tourists with the “first world class and facilities”.

The hurricane season brought forward by the authorities

The hurricane season is brought forward!

The Hurricane National Center of the United States declared this last Monday (on the 13^th of May 2012) that the hurricane season has already started.

In general, the season starts on the 1st of June. Yet, a first tropical depression formed in the Pacific Ocean at more than 1000 km away from the coast - hopefully. In the following days, this depression might turn itself in a tropical storm. This phenomenon is rather early in the year that is why the authorities brought forward the season.

It is important that everyone is alert about it. Down here in Mexico, the Riviera Maya has experienced a deserved rest after the trauma of Wilma. A 6 year lull. We must not keep our eyes closes and think that the slack time will go on forever. We live in a tropical region. The risk is present, authorities are aware of it, so are we.

 According to Admiral Sergio Javier Lara Montellano, commandant of the 8th Naval District of the Mexican Army, 2011 saw 19 tropical storms in the Atlantic Ocean. Very few of them have reached the coasts. Such a high number has not been recorded since 1851, according to the National Service of Meteorology.
