Mexico-Japan Strengthen Economic Ties

Mexico and Japan have come to solidify an important addition to the Economic Association Agreement. The Secretary Bruno Ferrari states that the outcome of the new addition to the agreement will mean that new growth opportunities are created that will directly benefit Mexico’s agriculture and livestock sectors in products such as orange juice, beef, pork and chicken.

Meanwhile Ikuo Yamahana, the Vice Minister for the Parliament for Foreign Affairs
of Japan says that the new addition represents a strategic priority to Japanese companies that seek an advantageous destination to invest, Mexico being a prime location and already a massive hub of foreign investment with an extensive trade agreement network.

Ferrari also commented that over the last five years, due to the Economic Association Agreement, there has been a large increase of trade and investment between the two economies. Japan has since become Mexico’s fourth trade partner on a global scale, the third largest supplier and the eighth largest buyer. Moreover, he detailed that Mexico has become the first official provider for products to Japan such as mango, melon, asparagus and chick-peas, which therefore translates into more benefits for Mexican farmers.

Both parties have also committed to further strengthening the Economic Association Agreement to continue expanding the benefits for both nations.
