A conference about the sexual trade in Cancun

Mexico, as many Latin American countries, is suffering from the sexual trade of women and young girls. Often they are used to satisfy rich men, politicians but also rich tourists. As you may know, the Riviera Maya and Cancun is the most touristic region of Mexico and this threat is unfortunately real in every single place where tourism is flourishing.

In order to prevent this horror from being expanded in the region, the government of Quintana-Roo - where Play a Del Carmen, Cancun and Tulum are located at, took the initiative and proposed the past days a conference about the sexual trade and its harmful drawbacks for the country, the region, the tourism and above all, for the women and young girls.

With such initiatives, Mexico should have all the weapons to fight this trend and protect its country and its people.

The hurricane season brought forward by the authorities

The hurricane season is brought forward!

The Hurricane National Center of the United States declared this last Monday (on the 13th of May 2012) that the hurricane season has already started.

In general, the season starts on the 1st of June. Yet, a first tropical depression formed in the Pacific Ocean at more than 1000 km away from the coast - hopefully. In the following days, this depression might turn itself in a tropical storm. This phenomenon is rather early in the year that is why the authorities brought forward the season.

It is important that everyone is alert about it. Down here in Mexico, the Riviera Maya has experienced a deserved rest after the trauma of Wilma. A 6 year lull. We must not keep our eyes closes and think that the slack time will go on forever. We live in a tropical region. The risk is present, authorities are aware of it, so are we.

According to Admiral Sergio Javier Lara Montellano, commandant of the 8th Naval District of the Mexican Army, 2011 saw 19 tropical storms in the Atlantic Ocean. Very few of them have reached the coasts. Such a high number has not been recorded since 1851, according to the National Service of Meteorology.

Don’t be scared, be only WELL PREPARED!

The Mexican economy laughs at the world crisis

The Mexican economic growth

It seems that the last released numbers about the Mexican economy are rather positive and encouraging. In fact, according to Instituto Mexicano de Ejecutivos de Finanzas (IMEF), after a light recession in March, the manufacturing Index of the country has come back up to 52.3 points, which is rather good. The manufacturing Index testifies the amount of manufacturing activity occurred in one month by a country. The non-manufacturing index tracks the non-manufacturing activity over the same period of time. The non-manufacturing index is up to 53.2 points, as high as the one in January 2012.

Having these two index superior to 50 points is really positive. This index goes from 0 to 100 points. If the index is below 50 points, it means that the activity of the country is low and that the country probably experiences a recession, especially, if it goes on over several months. A superior-to-50 number indicates a period of growth for the country. Both index are very trusted economic measures.

In the current critic period for the world, whereas the European Union struggles every day to keep the countries tight and united to each other in order to save the economy of the old continent, Mexico cuts a fine figure. Regarding the demand in manufacturing goods, Mexico registered a quite maintained rate up to 52 points over the past 4 months. In other words, the demands have not sunken because people keep steadily asking for manufactured and non-manufactured products.

Mexico possesses strong assets to struggle and face crisis. Mexico can be proud of its economy.

The Official National Office advices strongly to get protected from hurricanes

WARNING:

On March 27th 2012, the Official National Office in the United States has recommended every single person living in a hurricane area to use an adapted and secure way to protect houses, goods and lives.

People usually protect themselves with wood before the hurricane hits. But wood is not solid enough to hold and resist the strength of a hurricane. In fact, installing wood will simply create more projectiles you will have to protect yourself another time from flying planks of wood. At that time, once the wood protected window it would simply strip off, you will not have anything left to protect yourself or your family from the outside and inside projectiles. The Official National Office “encourages residents to skip taping their windows when a hurricane is heading their way”. They recommended “residents in hurricane zones to use hurricane shutters and impact-resistant windows”.

Positive Start for Mexican Growth!!

Beginning of wealth?
While Europe is experiencing a severe growth crisis, Mexico is doing rather well. The country can boast about the positive growth it has recorded since the beginning of the year 2012.

According to the Mexican Public Treasury, the country has recorded over the first semester of 2012 a 4% growth. This growth was originally generated by an increase of the American industry. As the United States is the first commercial partner of Mexico, this former has received more orders for non-oil products. This international order has been accompanied in the meantime by an increase of the national touristic industry and durable goods demand.

The Public Treasury has predicted for the end of the year an increase of 3.5% growth and a 3.8% for 2013.
Despite the tough time the world entered in just a few years ago, some countries have done a pretty good job and we can be proud of them. It seems that Mexico has a bright future.

American Development Company - Not Takin "NO" For Answer

Casa Playafina,Xpu-ha

There is no better feeling than showing off your creation to the world.  Making an idea, an abstract concept a reality is our specialty.

But ask anyone who has been through multiple construction projects and they will tell you that one that does not go smoothly can be worse than a nightmare.

American Development Company (www.American-Development.com) was established because of just sort of an experience.  Flashback to 2005, the founders of American Development wanted to do a construction project in Playa del Carmen.  They had a vision they wanted to bring to reality, but after talking to the 4 ‘recommended builders’ in the area, all they ran into was the word ‘NO’.

Could we add insulation to the walls for better energy efficiency?  NO

Could we import black marble and combine it with advanced lighting techniques to do something really special?  NO

What are our options for cabinets?  The same 5 options in every other house.
Can we import Canadian Maple for ours?  NO

For years buyers had settled.  “It’s Mexico” they would say.  That excuse made it OK to accept a “NO”.  It was from there that ADC was born.

The first thing we did was not to look for builders.  Mexico is full of architects and engineers who know, conceptually, how to build.  The problem was not lack of knowledge in the market, there is a lot of that.  We set out to identify what were the most common issues in construction projects in this area.

After ferocious interviews and research, the horror stories in the local market revolved around 2 issues:

  1. Projects not being done on time
  2. Projects not being done on budget
This problem was lack of imagination and organizational ability.  Once that was identified, those are the talents we looked for.

The team that was originally assembled has grown considerably, but we still look for these same qualities.  By combing the ability to see the vision, with the organizational ability to make it happen, we are proud of the results.
